Mumias Sugar Company Limited is a Kenya-based company engaged in the production and sale of sugar, ethanol, water and the generation and sale of electricity. The company in its leadership role in the sugar industry, diversified into power, water and ethanol production thus operating in four segments: Sugar, Energy (generates electricity from bagasse - a byproduct of sugar production - for sale to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company), Ethanol, and Water. Mumias has the capacity to produce 34MW of electricity of which 26 is exported to the national grid. It also has the capacity to produce 24 million liters of water and 22 million liters of ethanol annually. Despite its business diversification, the company still maintains its dominance in the sugar manufacturing sector.
