The Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE) is the stock exchange of Malawi based in the commercial and industrial capital of Blantyre. The Exchange is licensed under the Financial Services Act 2010 and operates under the Securities Act 2010 and the Companies Act 2013. The MSE began its equity trading activities in November 1996 upon listing the country's largest insurance firm, the National Insurance Company. Since then, the MSE has provided an efficient marketplace for buyers and sellers of listed securities by closely supervising trading activities and conduct of member firms. The MSE also runs two other market platforms, namely, the Alternative Capital Market (to raise capital for small and medium-sized companies at lower cost) and the Debt Market.

MSE TRADING SUMMARY FOR MONDAY, JANUARY 18, 2021: At the end of the first weekday of trading on the Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE), a total of 49,284 shares, corresponding to a market value of MWK 2,159,924.53, were traded. Compared with the previous MSE trading day (Thursday, January 14), today's data shows 63% decline in volume and 67% decline in turnover. The current MSE market capitalization is MWK 1.79 trillion.

In the aggregate, four MSE listed equities participated in trading, ending with one loser, namely Telekom Networks Malawi, with 0.31% share price depreciation. Telekom Networks Malawi recorded the highest volume of 25,377 traded shares, followed by FDH Bank (13,017), Sunbird Tourism (10,000) and National Bank of Malawi (890).

Regarding the performance of MSE market indices, the benchmark Malawi All Share Index (MASI) pared 11.24 (-0.03%) points to close at 32,999.96, representing a 1-week loss of 0.49%, a 4-week gain of 6.51%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 1.87%. This will organize the index timeline on a monthly basis. Now, hover over the chart with the mouse pointer and you will see the average index for each month since November 1996 to date.
