The Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE) is the stock exchange of Malawi based in the commercial and industrial capital of Blantyre. The Exchange is licensed under the Financial Services Act 2010 and operates under the Securities Act 2010 and the Companies Act 2013. The MSE began its equity trading activities in November 1996 upon listing the country's largest insurance firm, the National Insurance Company. Since then, the MSE has provided an efficient marketplace for buyers and sellers of listed securities by closely supervising trading activities and conduct of member firms. The MSE also runs two other market platforms, namely, the Alternative Capital Market (to raise capital for small and medium-sized companies at lower cost) and the Debt Market.

MSE TRADING SUMMARY FOR THURSDAY, APRIL 15, 2021: At the end of today's trading session on the Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE), a total of 707,294 shares, corresponding to a market value of MWK 22,015,606.47, were traded. Compared with the previous MSE trading day (Wednesday, April 14), today's data shows 5% decline in volume but 21% improvement in turnover. The current MSE market capitalization is MWK 1.79 trillion.

In the aggregate, 12 MSE listed equities participated in trading, ending with only one gainer, namely Airtel Malawi, with 0.03% share price appreciation. On the losing side, NBS Bank came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 4.13% at MWK 23.00 per share, followed by Icon Properties (-0.16%) and Malawi Property Investment Company (-0.05%). Airtel Malawi recorded the highest volume of 672,080 traded shares, followed by NBS Bank (20,424), Telekom Networks Malawi (12,113) and Standard Bank Malawi (1,100).

Regarding the performance of MSE market indices, the benchmark Malawi All Share Index (MASI) pared 54.64 (-0.17%) points to close at 32,901.33, representing a 1-week gain of 1.04%, a 4-week gain of 0.96%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 1.57%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the Malawi Foreign Share Index (+0%; +8.84% 1WK; +28.83% YTD), and Malawi Domestic Share Index (-0.17%; +0.69% 1WK; +0.52% YTD).

This will organize the index timeline on a monthly basis. Now, hover over the chart with the mouse pointer and you will see the average index for each month since November 1996 to date.
